Number Twenty-seven

Dogok-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul

Twenty TWENTY-SEVEN, January 27th.

An early start to a Wednesday morning, this is the view from my tutoree’s house. I can bet that, in like 20 or some years, the entire city of Seoul will just be full of these high-rise apartments and buildings.

Small cities like Paris enforces a building height requirements that help preserve the traditional aspect of the city. While the restriction has recently been increased to allow buildings of up to 180 meters, Parisians have done well to protect the visual identity of their city.

I’m not expecting the same of Seoul, but I hope that there will never be a day when it’ll be difficult to see the lines of mountains that cover about seventy percent of the peninsula’s total surface area.
