16SS UNIQLO AND LEMAIRE

Recently, I felt myself disappointed with Uniqlo. I remember when I was in high school...my sisters and I went all the way to Elizabeth, New Jersey and New York City just to purchase some Uniqlo basics. Thermals, socks, sweaters, fleece. I used to get all of these from Uniqlo. But, for the past year, all of the clothes seemed to be a bit too....basic. They didn't seem to take any risks and it all seemed like something I've seem before. 

Which is why I usually always get excited for any collaborations! 

Uniqlo collaborated with Lemaire, a French designer, and I loved it! I knew I would love it after seeing the name "Lemaire". As the former artistic director at Lacoste, Christopher Lemaire is very chic and a great blend of femininity and masculinity. 

Personally, I bought that red dress (pictured above) in black and I'm planning on going back to buy some more stuff! 

The price is pretty great, which dresses ranging from KRW 50 to 60,000, which is actually fairly cheap. And the fabric is very light, pretty much perfect for a day outing in the summer.

It's has now been about three weeks since I started my internship and, while the biggest struggle is actually waking up in the morning, getting dressed is also such an issue.

Thankfully, as an intern, I'm not entitled to wearing full-out business casual attire during the week. And, on Fridays, we even have casual day, when everyone just wears sneakers and hoodies. 

So, here we go: some of my outfit ideas for any fellow interns out there. 

I personally don't like wearing heels to work, mostly due to the sound the heels make. The office I intern at is veeeery quite. Like its similar to a library. So, I usually stick to wearing flats. 

My normal outfit consists of a blazer, a simple blouse, black trousers and pointed flats. And, I still love wearing midi skirts! Paired with a simple black shirt, it's super comfortable for sitting at a desk all day, but pretty chic at the same time. My supervisors always hated when interns wore short skirts to work. So midi skirt it is.

This past weekend was one of the best weekends this year. Even the rain felt good. It actually felt like spring was almost here.

With the change with mother nature, I have discarded my boots and knit scarves and have started to pull out my spring clothes. 

On that subject, here are some spring outfits that I love for the early spring season. I recently have been wanting to buy a navy wrap midi skirt. I've eyed one from Zara (with a matching blue top), but we'll see. 

And I love all types of lace-up sandals! The Zara Lace-up Pointed High Heel Shoes are on my list to buy! As someone who loves midi heels, I'm thinking this will be perfect. And its black, my favorite color!

The second outfit is what I usually wear. Jeans and a classic t-shirt with a statement embroidered jacket. 

The last outfit is not normally my style, but I have been wanting to wear a midi dress with my bomber jacket for a simple, go-to outfit. Paired with sneakers, this has to be the comfiest outfit!

NUMBER FIFTY-NINE

I love my camel vintage coat that I bought at a vintage store at Express Bus Terminal station (line 9) in Seoul. I used to love going to vintage stores in Philadelphia when I was in high school, like at Buffalo Exchange on Chestnut Street, but I realize that I haven't done much thrift shopping in Seoul. 

Clothing stores in Korea are all about...imitation. There are tons of clothing stores in the city and, for the most parts, all of the clothing look pretty much the same, following the current trend in Korea amongst young college students to those in their early-30s. And there are the department store brand clothing...which I personally don't care for. Something about the material and the hemming seem weird to me.

That's probably why the SPA market is booming so much in Korea. From Zara, H&M, and Mango, SPA brands are dominating the clothing industry in Korea so much that, for the most part, I can guess what brand some of my friends' clothes are from. On Friday, while exchanging subways at Dangsan Station, I saw some girl where the exact same navy gold-buttoned Zara coat, and it was embarrassing. 

So, I sometimes go to the used-clothing store with my sisters just to get something...new. It's a bit ironic that something old can be considered as something 'new'.

As a lover of the color black, I usually tend to wear black skinnies and trousers more than denim. But, I do love cropped flare jeans! Paired with a good pair of ankle boots, I love the casual yet chic look of the flare jeans + boots combination. 

Even in Korea, a lot of young urban college students love wearing cropped flare jeans, usually paired with Vans slip ons or a random pair of Nikes. Maybe I'll try out the look more for my back-to-school look!

Grey Coat

As soon as I set my foot out the door, I regretted my choice of my coat for the day. I borrow this grey Zara coat from my sister’s closet all the time, but it was a bit too thin to keep me warm today. Thank goodness I had my scarf with me.

After walking around in these shoes, I realized I need to buy a more comfortable set of black chelsea boots for everyday walking. 

And, I need a haircut. And maybe get my hair dyed again. Just too lazy to go to the hair salon and have to sit in that chair for over an hour.

Ever since watching The Hills and The City, I have always been a fan of Olivia Palermo. She has always been so chic and I always look forward to seeing her street style during fashion week or even just whenever. 

I wish I could have all of her fur coats to keep me warm in this treacherous winter because she looks great. But, I'll go for the faux fur. 

And, best part? She keeps everything simple with sneakers. 

Fall 2016 RTW

Favorite trends from New York Fashion Week. What would I give to be able to go to watch the shows during fashion week. 

The statement red color could be seen everywhere, all over the runways. I love that red dress from J. Mendel and I love everything about the Proenza Schouler 2016 Ready-to-Wear.

Although I am normally not a fan of fur, I'm loving the outer looks this season. PETA would hate it, but it'll keep me warm and it looks super comfortable. Coach and Calvin Klein are my favorites!

The metallic trend is something that I don't think I would end up wearing, but I appreciate the bold statement it's making.

And, last but not least, my favorite trend has to be the office look that seems to be everywhere. Tibi...Opening Ceremony...Jason Wu...I wish my closet were full of these matching suits that I could to work (you know, after I graduate and actually get a job).

Person of the Week: Amal Clooney

Person of the week: Amal Clooney

Who knew George Clooney would ever marry? And, when he did, who knew he would marry such an incredible person?

Amal Clooney, is by far, one of my role models. Not because she married the most eligible bachelor. But because of her incredible career. As an attorney and human rights activist, she represented many high-profile clients, such as Enron and Julian Assange. 

And, the best part? She does it all and does it in style. She’s my inspiration for whenever I graduate from college and enter the real world. I mean, her office looks are super chic with a touch of femininity. I love her matching skirt and jacket suits. She loves her Chanel, as any women does. 

Trends of 2016

2016 seems like it’ll be promising on many aspects. 2016 is when I finally graduate from college and enter the real world. The people of the United States may elect its first female president (Korea already has our first female president!). The summer olympic games will be held in Rio de Janeiro. Finding Dory — the sequel to Finding Nemo — will be released. And, I’m going to be a bridesmaid for my sister’s wedding in June. Good things are in store for 2016.

Even more promising are the fashion trends and favorites of this year. Let's take a look!

1. THE LONG BOB

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Vanessa Hudson, Jennifer Lawrence, Karlie Kloss

Okay, so my signature hair style is long and straight. Just simple. But the returning trend of the long bob is tempting me to chop off all my hair before the hot summer returns in June. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Vanessa Hudson, Jennifer Lawrence, Karlie Kloss, and more...this year's hot hair trend is for sure a long bob, that just brushes the shoulders. 

2. BIG LENSES

Dolce & Gabbana, Opening Ceremony, Gucci, Marco de Vincenzo

The rule for sunglasses this year: go big or go home. The spring collections of 2016 have been overwhelmed with the amount of oversized sunglasses. And no one is complaining. The first pair of oversized sunglasses I ever bought were these black bug-eyed sunglasses from House of Harlow 1960. I guess it'll be my go-to sunglasses this year. While the Dolce & Gabbana sunglasses are a bit too floral for me, I still love them. I love them all. Please, Santa, I'll take all four for my early-early-Christmas present. 

3. THE BOMBER JACKET

Soo Joo Park (Isabelle Marant), Kendall Jenner (Chanel), Kate Moss (Louis Vuitton), Gigi Hadid (Alpha Industries)

The number one choice for models off-duty? The bomber jacket. The perfect piece to complete the casual but chic ensemble, I need a new bomber jacket for my closet. I personally love the embroidered bomber jacket, especially the bright pink Isabelle Marant bomber jacket that Soo Joo Park was seen wearing. 

4. MINI-BAG

Chloe, Burberry, Balenciaga, Chloe

I love the mini-bags seen in Chloe Spring 2016 Ready-to-Wear. I think the mini-bag is perfect for the smart phone generation, where all we need to carry around are our iPhones and credit cards. The mini-bags by Burberry have even adopted the shape of a smart phone. As for the Baleciaga, it looks like it will be the perfect simple bag to match any evening dress. 

5. SHADE + ILLUMINATE

Clinique Chubby Stick, Tom Ford Shade + Illuminate, Hourglass Ambient Lighting Pallete, Benefit Fine One One

My daily makeup routine doesn't include contouring or highlighting. But, recently, contouring makeup tutorials are all that I see on my Instagram Search & Explore feed. I've been obsessed with Chloe Morello, the Australian makeup artist, and her makeup tutorials. Clearly, the makeup trend for 2016 will continue to be dominated by contouring and highlighting. I would never go so intense to look like one of the Kardashians or anything, but light use of contouring can help slim my face a bit. 

6. TWEED JACKET AND SKIRT

Rihanna, Penelope Cruz, Gwyneth Paltrow, Julianne Moore

If there is one thing I need in my closet, its a tweed suit from Chanel. My favorite show from Spring 2016 Ready-to-Wear was Chanel, seeing the matching tweed pieces at the Chanel airport last October.  And, from the Spring 2016 Haute Couture? The long tweed midi skirts were to die for. I love the feminine image of the tweed matching jacket and skirt. I need one. Please. 

7. DOUBLE DENIM

Double denim? Yes. A good choice for a day outfit. I remember seeing my sister falling in love with this trend after seeing her favorite Kim Kardashian wearing an all denim outfit. She has been following the double denim look ever since. Personally, I wear the denim shirt paired with denim jeans very sparingly, usually whenever I go to school or for a lazy outing on a Saturday. I don't ever wear a denim pencil skirt with a denim shirt, but the picture of Olivia Palermo in her denim outfit is one for my Inspiration Pinterest board. 

8. KOREAN BEAUTY

There are a lot of Korean models, like Irene Kim and Soo Joo Park. But the new face Sora Choi has made a great entrance into the international modelling world. She was the runner up on Korea's Next Top Model but it's great to see her on the pages of Coach and Marc Jacobs. She is my favorite Korean model of the moment. Hopefully, she'll be the next "It" model!

9. THE LOAFERS

Gucci's new line of loafers...a combination of the masculinity of the loafers and the femininity of the heel and pearls. I'm not sure how much I love pearls, but I'm in love with these loafers. I need some new loafers for fall.

10. KENDALL & GIGI

These two BFFs never go anywhere without the other. Anywhere I go, I see these two together. I would love to hang out with these two and join their little entourage. 

SAG Awards 2016: Red Carpet

The stars graced the red carpet yet again on the 30th for the 22nd Screen Actors Guild Awards, where all of my favorites actors from both film and television come together to honor the best performances and achievements of the past year.

As an article I read on The Guardian talked about, in this year’s SAG awards, diversity was the clear winner. Amid the huge controversy surrounding this year’s Oscar “whiteout”, the members of the Motion Picture and Television Nominating Committee — as well as the active SAG-AFTRA members — seemed to place diversity on their priority list. Four black actors — Viola Davis, Uzo Aduba, Queen Latifah and Idris Elba (who won twice!) — were recipients of the Screen Actors Guild award, strongly contrasting with the turnout of this year’s Oscar nominations. While I do believe that the white actors and actresses were quite deservant of their Oscar nominations, its assuring that non-white actors get recognized for their achievements as well. 

Alicia Vikander — who won Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role for her role in The Danish Girl — thanked the trans community in her acceptance speech, reminding the world that the term “diversity” doesn’t apply only to the conflict between white and black but to everyone. Good job, SAG2016!

As expected, Leonardo DiCaprio deservedly won Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role for The Revenant, paving the road for his first Oscar. Seriously, this movie was so intense and Leonardo did so great that, if he doesn’t win the Oscars this year, there’s going to be a huge backlash from the public and even the film community. It’s surprising that Leonardo has yet to win an Oscar yet. His films have always had bad timing, I guess. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that he will win this year! 

For the Television awards, Kevin Spacey won Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series for House of Cards — by far, one of my favorite TV shows ever. I think the first film I ever saw Kevin Spacey in was 21 — where he played an MIT professor teaching students how to count cards — and this role fit him so well. But, he brought it up a whole notch in the House of Cards. To anyone who hasn’t watched this yet, put on your sweatpants and get some popcorn: it’s time for a night with Netflix!

My favorite person of the moment has got to be Alicia Vikander. She's just so pretty and she looks great in practically anything. I feel like I wouldn't have liked this Louis Vuitton gown on anyone else, but Alicia Vikander totally pulls it off!

I'm not usually a fan of floral but Naomi Watts looked absolutely gorgeous in this blue Burberry gown. I can't believe Naomi Watts is 47. I wish I can age like her because she looks exactly the same, just as beautiful!

I haven't watched Mad Men before so I haven't seen Jessica Pare that much but this Kaufmanfranco gown was to die for. Her hair was also just perfect, with a low fishtail braid, to create a very simple look that complemented her look perfectly.

I'm sure my sister would love to wear this for her wedding. It's so simple and clean cut. 

I think Amanda Peet and her husband David Benioff —  the co-creator and writer of Game of Thrones —   are such a cute couple. 

Amy Poehler

Always loved Amy Poehler but I fell in love with her again after watching Sisters. Amy Poehler and Tina Fey made such a good team together in the movie, and also when they were presenting together at the SAGs. I loved this black Stella McCartney dress on her. And, totally jealous of her hair color. Amy Poehler is at the top of her game these days.

I haven't seen Anna Faris in any films recently, but I think this Naeem Khan gown is one of my favorites from the SAGs. She looks totally great in red and her legs are to die for. Recently, I've been obsessed with her husband Chris Pratt after watching Jurassic World. They are one of my favorite celebrity couples.

I've loved her as Beth in Little Women and I still love her as Carrie in Homeland. So obsessed with this show — totally binged watched this show last summer break and it was so worth it. I love her effortless look and her hair perfected the look.

This floral dress by Erdem would have been number one choice for a prom dress. The young star from Mad Man, Kiernan Shipka looks stunning!

Rachel McAdams

Elie Saab, Spring 2015 Couture

Rachel McAdams looked perfect in this black Elie Saab dress. Elie Saab is one of my favorites and Rachel McAdams rocked this black look. I haven't watched Spotlight yet but I have high expectations that it'll be good. 

Helen Mirren

Jenny Packham, Resort 2016

Helen Mirren is one of my favorite actresses of all time. I think I have loved every movie that Helen Mirren has starred in, especially Woman in Gold. Personally, I think she looks better in that Jenny Packham dress than the model. She looks awesome.

Zuhair Murad, Fall 2015

I love Zuhair Murad, and this dress looks absolutely great on Maris Tomei. She is also an actress that has aged well (how is she 51 years old?). 

Carrie Brownstein

Akris, Spring 2016 Ready-to-Wear

I haven't watched Carol yet but it's on my list of movies to watch. I love this Akris dress, with and without the sleeves. I'm not sure how much this dress flatters Carrie Brownstein but, overall, the dress is beautiful!

Tina Fey

Prabal Gurung, Spring 2016 Ready-to-Wear

Like my renewed love for Amy Poehler, Tina Fey is one of my favorites. I love that she returned to SNL to play Sarah Palin again. Sarah Palin...so hilarious. And I love this dress! 

Hannah Murray

Charlie Brear, Spring Summer 2016 Ready-to-Wear

Another actress from Game of Thrones, I think this yellow gown from Charlie Brear looked perfect on her. It kind of reminded me of the the iconic yellow dress that Kate Hudson wore in the movie How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. I love how simple the dress is and, while I don't normally like the color yellow, this dress looks awesome on her. 

Laverne Cox

I have yet to watch Orange is the New Black, but Laverne Cox is so pretty. Even better than her red carpet look was when she brought publicity to talk about the water crisis in Flint, Michigan. She said, "You go to my Twitter page, @LaverneCox, you can see a link to make a donation and really I think the governor should resign, but that's a whole other issue. Sending love to the people at Flint, and let's do what we can. United States people should have good drinking water." It's good to see celebrities use their fame to shed light on important issues. Laverne Cox, rock on!

From American Horror Story, Lily Rabe looked great in this Lela Rose dress. I didn't know her mother was the late actress Jill Clayburgh. I remember her from the movie Bridesmaids, when she paid Kristen Wiig's mother. There is a strong resemblance between the two, for sure.

Another star from Game of Thrones, she's only 18! It seemed that blue was the favorite color at this year's SAGs. This Ermanno Scervino dress looked splendid! Loved it!
