Number NINETY-SIX

Number NINETY-SIX, April 5th.

A quick stop at Cafe IMT before going to Kinko's to pick up some printed materials.
My fruit juice is a combination of two of favorite things: apples and kale.

Apples...I have always loved, ever since my family went to the apple farm in the fall to pick our own apples. And kale is something I recently started to love starting from about two years away. Anyone who knows anything about health have an obsession over kale. While I'm not a total health fanatic, consumption of kale here and there makes me feel a little more better about myself :)

A random cafe we went to after eating lunch. I loved the atmosphere here. Everybody was standing around, either waiting for their coffee order or chatting with their co-workers, wasting away time in order to avoid going back to the office.

As for me, I ordered the saigon coffee, which is just an espresso with condensed milk.

Keeping up with daily reading, because literature is pretty much yoga for the soul and mind.

Yummy Thai  at Itaewon.

There's nothing better than good food with good people.
We really killed that green curry, shrimp something and patsiu. It was sooooo good.

Restaurants at Itaewon can be a bit over-priced, but it's usually all worth it. I enjoyed every single bite of this meal...I need to go back soon!

A box of not-so-fresh looking fruit at a nearby cafe. I thought it was just for decoration but, today, I saw someone picking one out and actually buying it.

Flowers are never overrated.
Rather, I personally believe they are underrated at times.

Because flowers wilt over time, the beauty of flowers is more particular and unique because it is fleeting. It's something that is hard to appreciate these days, because most of our products are very efficient and last for long periods of time, such as the Macbook that I'm currently typing on or the last movie that I saw at the movie theatres. Even famous pieces of art are not necessary fleeting, because we can now google it or go to an exhibition to see it in person.

Sure, you can take photos of flowers. But that is not the same time as actually seeing, smelling, touching it in person.

That's why I love flowers. And the reason why I believe they are underrated.

The view of Gwanghwamun from yesterday.

No matter how much I go to the Gwanghwamun plaza, I never get tired of seeing this view. I love the historical meaning, the culture, the traditional...I love it all!

And I love the tourists!

Number EIGHTY-SIX, March 26th.

A quick snapchat of a random art book store in Hongdae.

They happen to have two of of my favorite artists: Mondrian and Magritte.

A couple of days ago, I went to Mokdong to tutor my fifth-grade student English and he asked me the weirdest question: "Emma teacher, who is your third favorite artist? And I looked at him...so puzzled. Why not just ask me who my favorite artist was, not the third favorite. He just looked me with the surest expression on his face, and just said he was just curious.

So, I just decided to indulge his curiosity, and gave him a list of my top favorites:
1. Van Gogh
2. Monet
3. Magritte

Then, I asked him his top three:
First, he said his number one favorite was Leonardo da Vinci because of his versatility: he was an artist, an inventor, a scientist. Da Vinci is one of his favorite people ever.

So, on to number two, at first, he couldn't remember the artist's name. I told him to describe the artist for me, and he started drawing a pencil sketch on our Junior TOEFL book. Right away, I knew he was talking about Mondrian. But, I totally forgot Mondrian's name. We even tried google-ing "red, white, blue, lines, boxes, painting" but, much to our disappointment, nothing came up.

Now, when we moved onto number three, he said he didn't have a third favorite. And, at that point, I was like, "Then why did you ask me my third favorite if you didn't have one"....and he just said he was curious and that he didn't really like art to begin with.

I must say, it was a very stimulating conversation.

NUMBER EIGHTY-FIVE

Number EIGHTY-FIVE, March 25th.

One of my favorite places to go for lunch: TOMATILLO!

I love mexican fooooood! Usually, I get a chicken burrito, or a quesadilla.
But, today, I felt a bit adventurous.

I opted for shrimp tacos!!! When I first got it, I was a bit iffy about the mango topping, but it was actually not that bad! I mean, anything with shrimp tastes good!

Anyone living in Korea wanting okay-priced Mexican food should go to Tomatillo! There's actually a pretty big one at Itaewon, so it's pretty easy to find. I usually always go to the branch in Yeoido, but the one pictured about is the one in Jongro area (I can't believe I've been to all of these).

Number EIGHTY-FOUR, March 24th.

After a good day at work, I celebrated my favorite day of the week by going to Daelim Art Museum for the first time in a long time. I used to go all the time last year while I was interning at the Embassy.

Well, we were going to go see the current exhibition. But, we figured we could go any other day and just went to the Thursday Event, which means one free gin & tonic. I wouldn't have it any other way.

But, it really doesn't matter what we do. As long as I'm with people I like that I can have good conversations with.

Late night drinks with the sister after a hard day at work. Yeah, we loving drink moscato, especially while re-watching old seasons of Sex and the City. Even as I'm writing this, I'm watching Carrie going on dates with Aleksandr Petrovsky and Samantha getting fitted for a wig during her chemotherapy.

Ah, it doesn't get better than this...

I can't believe Monday comes around so fast. Why does the weekend just blow past so quickly?
After the perfect weekend, I shed my winter coats and opted for a fall-ish blazer...much too my dismay.

Nope, it's not the time yet for spring season clothes. Nope, I need to wear my parka again.

But, I love this green scarf. It is my favorite color :)

There's nothing I love more than ice cream. But, you know what's better? Coffee-flavored ice cream!
After an annoying day of tutoring English, the little cup of heaven solves everything.

Number SEVENTY-EIGHT

Number SEVENTY-EIGHT, March 18th.

A random restaurant in Hap-jeong

I love this building. I turned into this street and thought I entered Japan or something.
And the perfect weather made everything better.

Serena and I was at Itaewon for the night for a bit of a reunion with friends from Pennsylvania. It was amazing that, even though I didn't see them for like six or seven years, as soon as I saw them, it felt like I  saw them even just months ago. Maybe its because I grew up with them. Or maybe its because we have a lot of memories together. The whole night we talked about places we used to hang out, things we used to laugh hysterically about, funny memories from when we in middle school.

I guess that's the power of friendship. No matter how much time you spend apart from each other, that time disappears when you meet again. It's actually kind of magical if you think about it.

On this subject, I sometimes feel sad when I think of my mom. She never hangs out with her friends. I mean, she's not really the social type and she's a bit of an introvert. She always says she hates the concept of "hanging out with people" but it has to be lonely from time to time. She really only hangs out with my sisters and I...but I feel that she may need to converse with people her own age from time to time.

Number Seventy-Seven

Number SEVENTY-SEVEN, March 17th.

On Thursday, our office celebrated a very belated New Year's Party. Late by a good two months.
Ahhhh I love name tags. It makes everything seem so much more professional.

Everybody, including myself, was all dressed up for the "red carpet" and it was actually much more fun than I expected. The flower decorations were the best!
